Joshua & Teah Lane Dominican Republic
Neither is there salvation in any other: for there is none other name under heaven given among men, whereby we must be saved. Acts 4:12
Our hearts are burdened for the Dominican and Haitian people, and we believe God has called us to be missionaries on the Island of Hispaniola, specifically in the Dominican Republic. We were recognized as BBFI TEAM missionaries on May 4th, 2016 and have served alongside veteran missionaries Wesley and Melina Lane for just shy of two years. This internship gave us the opportunity to improve our Spanish, and better understand the culture as we’ve assisted in all aspects of ministry and church planting. Rev. Wesley and Melina Lane have been serving God in Haiti and the Dominican Republic for more than 30 years and we have been blessed to glean from their wisdom and experience. It is now our desire to apply for approval as BBFI career missionaries in May of 2020, raise ministry funds, and return to the Dominican Republic to continue to share the name of Jesus and the love of God with everyone we meet.
Letter Update:
We are praising God for the 17 salvations we have seen these last two months here in the Domincan Republic. It is combined effort as some of us plant, and some of us water. But we praise
God because He gives the increase!
Easter Salvation!
Easter Weekend is always a busy time for us. We not only have all of the regular church activities, but we also help host the annual youth camp for Calvary Baptist Church in Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic. Several years ago at this same camp I had the opportunity to meet a young man named Junior. Junior is a very happy outgoing young man who always has a smile on his face. Junior grew up in a Christian home and has attended Calvary Baptist Church almost his whole life. About two months after last year’s youth camp, I received a text message from Junior. He said that he had never asked Jesus to forgive his sins, and that he really needed help understanding salvation. To be honest I was shocked. It never occurred to me that this joyous and faithful young man did not have a relationship with Jesus. For the last nine months, Junior continued the conversation with me over the phone and via text message. Sometimes weeks would go by between communication, and I would beg God to be merciful to this young man who had a head full of knowledge and heart full of sin. By this year’s camp I knew Junior had gotten a full time job, and I did not expect him to attend. However, much to my surprise he climbed off the bus with his usual smile. As soon as they got settled in, I spent the next two hours going through Scripture with him again. He told me that he understood everything I was saying but that he was not ready yet.
The following day, as Pastor Wesley and I were talking, Junior walked past us. Pastor Wesley (who had been made aware of Junior’s spritual condition) asked him if he was saved. Junior said no. Pastor Wesley looked him in his eyes and said “you realize if you die you are going to hell right?” Junior looked at my Uncle and asked if he could be saved right then. The three of us then retreated to the dining table where we walked him through everything again. Junior bowed his head and began to talk to Jesus in sincerity. What a beautiful thing to witness this young man be born again on Resurrection weeked! I have since received several text messages from Junior detailing how he has told everyone in his family what Jesus did for him. I have spent so much time detailing this account for you, because while it is joyous for me, it is also a stark reminder that we cannot see men’s hearts. It scares me to think that our churches could be full of “Juniors.” Heads full of knowledge and hearts full of sin. It scares me to think that there are many smiling faces out there who don’t know true joy. If that is you, please repent and be believe the Gospel! Jesus loves you and this missionary loves you and we
want you in heaven with us some glorious day. We are grateful for all your continued prayers,
notes of encouragement, and financial support!
Thank you!
Sincerely,
They Lane Family
