Buxton Family – Manila, Philippines

Marc, Jessi, Reece, Levi & Nicole Buxton

Sanctify yourselves: for to morrow the Lord will do wonders among you. Joshua 3:5

Marc is from Florence, SC.  He enjoys golf, reading, coffee, and college football. His passion and calling is church planting, and he is currently leading a church plant in Marikina City, Metro Manila. He also serves as the Provost and Senior Vice President of Global Life University, with over 1,500 students currently enrolled. Marc is also the founder of Honest Deceiver Ministries, an evangelism ministry that helps churches share the gospel through the art of illusion.

Marc holds a pre-med B.S. in biology/chemistry from Francis Marion Universiry, a Master of Arts in Religion from Liberty Baptist Theological Seminary and a PhD in Executive Leadership from Louisiana Baptist University.

Jessi was born in Makati, Philippines. Her parents are BBFI missionaries Greg and Lu Ann Lyons. She enjoys spending time with family, shopping, and is an expert at finding good deals. Jessica has attended Baptist Bible College in Springfield, MO and is currently pursuing her degree through Global Life University.

Marc felt the call to ministry on a missions trip to the country of Peru in 2007. At that time, he held a pre-med degree and was pursuing a degree to become a physician. The following year, following God’s call, he enrolled in seminary to pursue his masters in religion. Also that year, he was part of a mission trip to the Philippines. It was on this trip that God began calling him to mission work in Manila. It was also on this trip that he met Jessi, who was soon to be his wife (good things happen on mission trips!).

Marc and Jessi were married a year later in 2009 and began the process of support raising for their ministry and vision. In 2011, they moved to Manila, Philippines to be a part of the Global Surge team.

Their home church is the Florence Baptist Temple in Florence, SC.

BIG THINGS : Major Lessons from the Minor Prophets
by Marc Buxton

How important are the little things?

It’s frequently the small things that can make the most difference, yet are most often overlooked.

It’s true in life and it’s true with twelve obscure little books at the end of the Old Testament. The “minor prophets” generally do not garner the respect they are due. But they are packed with a wealth of spiritual knowledge and insight.

They are proof that good things do come in small packages.

Letter Update:

On June 12 we celebrated the 25th Anniversary of Global Life University during our Commencement Exercises.

It was our largest graduating class ever featuring 1,344 graduates from 40 campuses across the Philippines. This included graduates from various schools and programs including:

School of Divinity
School of Missions
School of Missional Entrepreneurship
Martial Arts School of Leadership

Thank you for partnering with us and impacting these hundreds of students! We are training the next generation of leaders for the Great Commission!

Global Surge’s Women of Influence ministry recently hosted a ladies leadership event called Women Who Rise. It was attended by over 300 leaders from our Global Surge churches who were challenged and encouraged during the all day conference.

Jessi helps to lead the Women of Influence ministry and was also one of the featured speakers, giving a talk on Bible Study Methods.

Summer time means Vacation Bible School!

Our churches in the Philippines capitalize on the summer break to reach out to children and families. This year many of our Global Surge churches are hosting multiple day VBS activities.

The pictures above are from two of our church locations in Marikina City, where hundreds of kids attended VBS in the past week and many dozens of them made professions of faith in Christ!
