Beau, Valerie, Avery, Owen, and Landon
“And the things that thou hast heard of me among many witnesses, the same commit thou to faithful men, who shall be able to teach others also.” 2 Timothy 2:2
a note from valerie:
I was born into a wonderful Christian family, raised in church, and in God’s Word. I understood the gospel at age 4 and was saved and baptized in Junction City, KS. At that time, my parents, Lionel and Carol Martin, were on deputation to become missionaries to the country of Portugal. I was privileged to spend 14 years with them on the field before returning to the states to attend BBC (Springfield, MO) and obtain a music Education degree, surrendered to using it in whatever capacity God would have me to. He made it clear to me that I should return to Portugal to continue the ministry I had left unfinished.
a note from beau:
God saved me from a true path of destruction at the age of 16. I was baptized and began maturing in the Lord at my church in Wichita, KS. At youth camp, I surrendered to any ministry God would lead me to and attended BBC (Springfield, MO) to prepare for whatever that may be. My senior year, God called me to short term missions during a missions trip to England. I graduated in 2002 with a missions degree and began the short term missions process with the BBFI. In England, I worked with an inner city youth center through our local church and fulfilled the internship required by the BBFI. While I was in England, I traveled to Portugal where God used a variety of experiences to call me to minister there full time.
our ministry:
We sought approval from the BBFI as career missionaries in September 2007 and arrived in Portugal in November of 2009.
We spent 7 years working at the Igreja Baptista de Queijas alongside Lionel and Carol Martin, primarily with the youth and music. In 2016 we relocated to an area of Greater Lisbon called Colinas do Cruzeiro, a suburb of Odivelas to begin a new church.
Letter Update:
Easter Sunday
What a sweet Resurrection celebration we had as two followed the Lord in baptism, including our own son, Landon (age 7). We rented a facility in the next town over to accommodate the “crowd.” We are still praying for the funds and availability of a new meeting space.
Marriage and Family:
We hosted 5 couples in our home for a “weekend retreat” (they did not stay overnight) where we shared meals and time around God’s Word and teaching specifically on marriage Pray that God will strengthen marriages under attack and be glorified through them – the ultimate goal of the marriage union.
Summer Camp:
Our group of small churches have gathered again to begin planning this years’ youth camp. Food and lodging costs have increased since last year! Would you be willing to sponsor a camper for $80? We have 7 planning go so far.
Cast and Crutches:
After a fall at school, Avery’s patella was on the side of her leg. It was casted from ankle to mid-thigh after relocation and she has been on crutches for three weeks. Last week she had an MRI and this week and an appointment with an orthopedic surgeon will reveal whether she needs surgery. Please pray she is able to heal completely without surgery.
